Introduction
DiwaliThe enchanting festival of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated with great exuberance. It marks the end of ignorance and beginning of knowledge. The country wears a splendid look as people, all around, light up countless candle and Diyas (Oil lamps).

Venue
Diwali is celebrated on a grand scale throughout the length and breadth of the country.

Time
Diwali falls on a New Moon Day in the month of October and November as per the Georgian Calendar.

History
The festival of Diwali commemorates the day when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. The demon king Ravana had kidnapped Rama's consort Sita. A war followed as a result, putting an end to the wicked Ravana and his kingdom of Lanka. As Rama returned to Ayodhya after winning a fierce battle with the demon king, the city and the far-reaching boundaries of the region were lit up with numerous rows of lamps. It was all to welcome home the Divine king Rama.
