The

great exuberance. It marks the end of ignorance and beginning of knowledge.
The country wears a splendid look as people, all around, light up countless
candle and Diyas (Oil lamps).|
» The First Day or Dhanteras The first day of Diwali is known as Dhanteras or Dhanatrayodashi. On this auspicious day, doors are festooned with mango leaves and marigolds. Rangolis (A colourful pattern) are drawn with multi-hued powders to give a warm welcome to the guests. The traditional motifs symbolise goo luck and prosperity. The second day is termed as Kali Chaudas or Chhoti Diwali. » The Third Day or Diwali On
the Third Day or Diwali, people decorate their homes and houses with
great enthusiasm. The entrances are magnificently lit up with hundreds
of candles and Diyas (Oil lamp). Rangoli patterns are drawn to welcome
Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. Lakshmi Pooja is observed on the day.
Diwali also marks the last day of Financial year in traditional Hindu
business. The day culminates with bursting fire-crackers. All the
members of the family take part and enjoy this session of burning
Patakhas (Fire-crackers).» The Fourth Day or the New Year Day Most of the families celebrate the New Day by putting on new dresses, wearing jewellery and visiting their near and dear ones. Sweets, fruits and gifts are distributed. On the day, all business communities perform the Mahurat Pooja ( Rituals to start new ventures). It is an occasion when people indulge themselves in feasting and shopping. It is considered to be the best time to start new ventures and for inauguration of new homes. |
